Background
Irepodun Local Government formerly an integral part of Osogbo Local Government came to existence in 1976 following the promulgation of edict No 5 of the Old OYO State Government by RTD Brigadier David Jemibewon. It consisted of two principal towns, namely Ilobu and Erin-Osun and other Smaller Villages and hamlets. Ilobu is the administrative headquarters of this Local Government. Ifon-Osun, which is now the Administrative headquarter of Orolu Local Government, was carved out of Irepodun Local Government in 1997. Ilobu and its environs was a virgin land, before Larosin left OYO on hunting expedition in the Sixteenth (16th) century. His (Larosin) first place of settlement was IREGBA. He later moved from Iregba to the site of the present day Ilobu. However, one day, while Laarosin was doing his hunting, he discovered Salt-Like substance. This substance was then used in Salting food. Thus, the salt became very useful to the people and because of its desirability to human diets; people trouped to Laarosin’s settlement to make purchases of the newly found substance.
The place then became known as “ILU OBU O TOYO” because of the existence and availability of the substance at the place. This was then shortened to “ILU OBU and ILOBU”. The paramount ruler of the town is known as Olobu of Ilobu. The Erin-Osun people came from Erin-Ile in the present day Kwara State for refuge in their present site, when the Fulani Jihadist attacked them in the early 19th century. Baale of Gbobamu, Ilobu, gave the Elerin of Erin – Osun their present site. The Erin – Osun people who earlier fled to Ila all jointed Elerin at Erin – Osun and settled at a quarter known as Oke –Ila. After the war, the Elerin himself returned to his own town, Erin – Ile but his younger brother and most people remain in Erin – Osun. The town is divided into five Quarters namely, Erin proper Oke-Ila, Ehin – Igbo, Oke – Ore and Oke – Afolu.
